Uzume Taiko At ArtStarts Showcase in 2014We just completed our Spring Taiko Class Sessions at the Taiko Studio and thank all our Students for bringing their energy, spirit and love for drumming to the classes! The Studio is offering a Summer Taiko Training Intensive from July 21 – 25 led by artistic director Bonnie Soon for those who want to experience the rigorous training schedule of a professional taiko drum group. Check the WORKSHOP page for more details and to find out about the Fall Taiko Class Sessions that will be posted mid-August.

Uzume Taiko was active this spring performing and leading workshops for youth in the School system. The group conducted an artist residency at Nootka Elementary School as part of the Chan Centre’s ‘Roots and Shoots’ program that culminated in a Chan Centre Theatre performance in early June. A mini Music Workshop program just began at the Gathering Place Community Centre for people with disabilities and community members along with Vancouver Adapted Music Society members.

In other spring collaboration projects, Jason Overy performed and toured B.C. in Shay Kubler’s modern dance production ‘Karoshi’. Bonnie Soon performed with the ‘Language of Rhythm’ music group at the Surrey Children’s Festival and various events around the lower mainland. For corporate clients Mazda and Rugby Canada, Uzume Taiko had the opportunity to collaborate with a D.J. and create a ‘taiko flash mob’ for promotional events.

Find where Uzume Taiko will be performing in the lower mainland this June and August on the SCHEDULE page. Looking ahead the group prepares for a return European Tour in the Fall 2015 and will be busy creating new work for that evening concert tour. Check the Germany dates on the SCHEDULE page.
