Uzume Taiko Spring 2012 Workshop/Class Schedule

UZUME TAIKO TEACHING SCHEDULE
Beginner Taiko Basics and Taiko Lab Adult Workshops are held on the last Saturday of each month before the next monthly Thursday class series begins.

BEGINNER TAIKO BASICS WORKSHOP - ADULT

Saturdays:

  • February 25
  • March 31
  • April 28

Class time: from 11:00 AM - 1:30 PM / $40
No experience required

Learn about the art form of taiko drumming. Everyone will experience the energy and power of the drums through active hands on playing.

BEGINNER TAIKO BASICS CLASSES - ADULT
Participants must register for a monthly session. No drop-ins or pro-rated classes.

Thursdays:

  • March 1 - 29 (5 weeks) / $60
  • April 5 - 26 (4 weeks) / $48
  • May 3 - 31 (5 weeks) / $60

Class Time: from 6:00 - 7:15 PM
Prerequisite: Beginner Taiko Basics Workshop or returning Uzume Taiko drum students (Must purchase a pair of taiko drum sticks from Long & McQuade) Learn and practice the fundamentals of playing taiko, basic form, oral tradition, sticking technique and group playing.

TAIKO LAB WORKSHOP - ADULT

Saturdays:

  • February 25
  • March 31
  • April 28

Class time: from 2:00 PM - 4:30 PM / $40
Prerequisite: Previous taiko experience and a basic fitness level / Intermediate level drumming skills required. Bring your own bachi (or purchase a pair of taiko drum sticks from Long & McQuade) Get a workout and drill taiko exercises to common taiko rhythms. This workshop will focus on taiko drumming skills in a team setting, supporting others on basic rhythms and soloing.

TAIKO LAB CLASSES
Participants must register for a monthly session. No drop-ins or pro-rated classes.

  • April 5 - 26 (4 weeks) / $40
  • May 3 - 31 (5 weeks) / $50

Class Time: from 7:30 - 9:30 PM
Prerequisite: Taiko Lab Workshop / Recommendation of Instructors A creative environment for the taiko player (or stick drummer) who wants to drill taiko exercises and refine body movements. Train to develop your personal style and sound as movement and musicianship skills will be emphasized. Bring your own bachi (or purchase a pair of taiko drum sticks from Long & McQuade)
