This Fall, Uzume Taiko welcomes a special guest and workshop...
2-Day Odaiko workshop with Kristy Oshiro 

Come and learn how to play the largest drums in a taiko ensemble, the odaiko! The two days of instruction will include basic technique, copious drills, and specific individual feedback. You will learn how to look bigger, sound better, and feel more relaxed and confident when playing the odaiko. Taiko players of all levels are encouraged to sign up, as well as beginners who have never touched a taiko before. 

Workshop Dates: Two separate workshop Sessions offered. Participants can register for 1 or 2 sessions.
Saturday & Sunday Oct 12 & 13, 2013
Time: 1:00 – 3:00 PM
Cost: $75.00 per sngle session and $140.00 for two sessions

Kristy Oshiro has been playing and teaching taiko for 21 years. She has been performing at the Powell St. Festival and the Pride in Art series in Vanouver for the past 8 years as a member of Jodaiko, an international women's taiko group founded and led by Tiffany Tamaribuchi. Kristy is currently an instructor and performer with Sacramento Taiko Dan (also founded and led by Tiffany Tamaribuchi), Creative Director of Placer Ume Taiko, and performs internationally with Taikoza based in New York City. 


UZUME TAIKO PRIVATE LESSONS - ADULT

Participants must register in advance.

Fee: $50 (1 hour session)

Private lessons on taiko drums, drum set and percussion are available. The class can either be a one-time introductory session or scheduled on an ongoing basis.
Prerequisite: No experience required

CORPORATE and COMMUNITY with UZUME TAIKO

Uzume Taiko can teach for your corporate or community function. Taiko Workshops promote team building and give participants an active body mind experience. Fees available upon request depending on services provided.

Things to know about classes and workshops:

  • Bring a towel and water and be prepared to sweat!
  • Bring a pair of clean, indoor shoes with good grip to wear or participate in bare feet and wear loose, comfortable clothing
  • Bring Foam earplugs to protect your hearing.
  • Classes take place at the Taiko Studio, near Frances and Clark Street in east Vancouver.
