Below is a selection of highlights from Uzume Taiko's performance history.
Uzume Taiko with guitarist Dave Corman (Jan. 20, 2006, Norman Rothstein Theatre). The debut of the European Tour with guest artist Dave Corman. This performance was also the launch of Uzume's new CD "Undula".
Uzume Taiko with violinist/dancer Maria Kaneko Millar (Oct. 14 & 15, 2005, Norman Rothstein Theatre). A collaboration with violin sensation Maria Kaneko Millar in a stunning show performing a new collaboration of music and movement.
Da-vay Taiko with Boris Sichon (May 14, 2005, Norman Rothstein Theatre). A powerful combination of Japanese drums & percussion with Eastern European sounds.
Uzume Taiko and Portland Taiko (Mar.13, 2005, Centennial Theatre). Two taiko groups join forces for a powerful, large group drumming experience.
Ritmo y Pasion (Nov.26-28, 2004, Norman Rothstein Theatre). A collaboration with dance company Flamenco Rosario presenting two powerful and intense art forms.
The Godzilla Concert: Uzume Taiko and Hard Rubber Orchestra (Feb.1, 2004, Vancouver East Cultural Centre). A unique and powerful collaboration of percussion and modern big band.
Uzume Taiko and the Orchid Ensemble In Concert (Dec.5, 2002, Roundhouse). This cross-cultural collaboration of Japanese, Chinese, and Western music explored both historic and current musical exchanges between China and Japan.
Concert at Capilano College of Performing Arts (Apr.18, 2002). This concert featured guest artist Alcvin Ramos, one of Canada's leading shakuhachi players.
Concert at the Inlet Theatre (Mar.8, 2002). Part of the 5th Port Moody Festival of the Arts, this concert featured collaborators Graham Ord on saxophone and flutes and Stuart MacNeil on highland pipes and guitar. The ensemble also consisted of five apprentice drummers joining Boyd Seiichi Grealy, Bonnie Soon and John Endo Greenaway.
Moving Hearts (Jan.9-10, Auditorio Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez in Queretaro, Mexico) This concert was part of a Cirque du Soleil-style show for a Fundraising Concert to support children in Mexico.
The Big Bang (Aug.4, 2001, Firehall Theatre) As part of the Powell Street Festival, this concert featured new work by Uzume Taiko Ensemble and introduced new members Vivien Nishi and Jason Overy.
Fan the Flames (May 25, 2001, Vancouver East Cultural Centre) This sold-out concert for Asian Heritage Month featured new work by Uzume Taiko Ensemble with guest artist Simon Kendall.
Katadrone (Dec.17, 2000, Vogue) This performance with Pro Musica, Mearingstone Pipe Band and the SFU Pipe Band featured new work by Micheal O'Neill, Matt Welch and Uzume Taiko in collaboration with the bands.
Pacific Fire (Jun.23-24, 2000, Vancouver Playhouse) This performance, in collaboration with the Chor Leoni, Men's Choir featured two new commissioned works by Sal Ferreras and Don Macdonald and new work by Chor Leoni.
Verdant Stones (July 1999, Vancouver Folk Music Festival) This large outdoor spectacle brought together five Vancouver taiko groups, the Robert Malcolm Memorial Senior Pipe Band, 10 horn players
