Minimum enrollment is required for programs to run so register early to avoid disappointment! The SPRING CLASS SCHEDULE ends on May 23, 2013. The Studio takes a break for one week then Tuesday and Thursday classes resume on June 4, 2013.
TAIKO BASICS WORKSHOP - ADULT
Advance registration is advised, as minimum enrollment is required.
Saturday: Class time from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
- June 1 (1 session) / $50
- June 22 (1 session) / $50
Learn about the art form of taiko drumming. Everyone will experience the energy and power of the drums through active hands on playing. This introductory workshop will prepare participants who want to join the Fit4 Taiko and Taiko Basics Classes. (Drumsticks provided)
Prerequisite: No experience required.
FIT4 TAIKO CLASS
Advance registration is advised, as minimum enrollment is required.
Tuesdays: Class Time from 6:15 - 7:00 PM
- Spring: April 2 - May 21 (8 weeks) / $64
- Spring/Summer: June 4 - 23 (8 weeks) / $64
Thursdays: Class Time from 6:15 - 7:00 PM
- Spring: April 4 – May 23 (8 weeks) / $64
- Spring/Summer: June 6 - July 25 (8 weeks) / $64
Drop in fee: $10 per class.
Action drumming to music tracks! Sweat, Train, Drum, Move! Recommended for all taiko students to develop muscular strength and endurance and cardiovascular fitness for taiko drumming in a fun class environment. This class will improve your coordination and movement around the drums. (Drumsticks provided)
Prerequisite: Taiko Basics Workshop or previous taiko drum experience
TAIKO BASICS CLASS - ADULT

Tuesdays STICKING TECHNIQUES: Class Time from 7:00 - 8:00 PM
- Spring: April 2 - May 21 (8 weeks) / $120
- Spring/Summer: June 4 - July 25 (8 weeks) / $120
Thursdays TAIKO FORM: Class Time from 7:00 - 8:00 PM
- Spring: April 4 - May 23 (8 weeks) / $120
- Spring/Summer: June 6 - July 25 (8 weeks) / $120
Drop in fee: $18.00 per class
Learn and practice the fundamentals of playing taiko, basic form, oral tradition, sticking technique and group playing. (Must purchase a pair of taiko drum sticks, available from Long & McQuade, Terminal Ave & Main St Vancouver location)
Prerequisite: Taiko Basics Workshop or returning Uzume Taiko drum students
TAIKO BASICS2 CLASS - ADULT

Thursdays UZUME FORM: Class Time from 8:00 - 9:00 PM

Train to develop in the Uzume Taiko style and sound, as movement and musicianship skills from the group’s repertoire will be emphasized. Bring your own bachi (or purchase a pair of taiko drum sticks, available from Long & McQuade, Terminal Ave & Main St Vancouver location)
Prerequisite: Recommendation of Instructors
PRIVATE LESSONS - ADULT
Participants must register in advance.
Fee: $50 (1 hour session)
Private lessons on taiko drums, drum set and percussion are available. The class can either be a one-time introductory session or scheduled on an ongoing basis.
Prerequisite: No experience required
CORPORATE and COMMUNITY
Uzume Taiko can teach for your corporate or community function. Taiko Workshops promote team building and give participants an active body mind experience. Fees available upon request depending on services provided.
Things to know about classes and workshops:
- Bring a towel and water and be prepared to sweat!
- Bring a pair of clean, indoor shoes with good grip to wear or participate in bare feet and wear loose, comfortable clothing
- Bring Foam earplugs to protect your hearing.
- Classes take place at the Taiko Studio, near Frances and Clark Street in east Vancouver.
